Kingfisher on the Teign

Pastel on Pastelmat 13 x 19 inches

I finished this one off in the studio today, refining a few bits here and there and adding a Kingfisher with just a smudge of electric blue, which is usually all you see if one flashes like lightning past you.  To compare to the one I did as a demo, go to my 24/5/13 post.

  1. Unbelievable! Absolutely beautiful. In comparison to the video link I sent you yesterday, I'll take this kind of artwork ANYDAY. Your blends are out of this world, so subtle. I wish, wish, wish I could be half as good as this.

    Amazing. Love it!

    1. Ah, thank you very much David! Hope I didn't sound too scathing in my reply about the link! You keep practising!

  2. Absolutely not, Peter. I very much appreciated your thoughts. I was just grateful that you took the time to watch some of it and respond. I think that's why your fans/supporters enjoy your blog, because you are approachable and incredibly generous with your time and help/advice to us novices. You're not like, oh go away I'm too above you to waste my time helping you.

I can also see what you mean as well. After another viewing, I realised that although it was a good use of colour, as you pointed out, there was no drawing or observational ability. On a similar theme are you familiar with the work of Jerry Yarnell? He is much more in keeping in style and substance for us traditional landscape artists. If you're not, have a look at his stuff on youtube, he really is quite good.

The only thing we need now is for you to get those instructional films out, so we can see how it should be done :)

As always, thanks for your help and support, it really is much appreciated.

    Best wishes,

    David
